Japanese Whisky on the rise

Japanese spirits have come a long way in recent years. Whether it's craft gin or a coveted bottle of whisky, there are now more options and variations available than ever. Although rising demand for Japanese whisky has led to a shortage of several aged single malt varieties and steep price increases, it appears that alcohol in general will rise in price again next spring.



Suntory Spirits recently announced that it will revise prices on its domestic premium whisky products, starting with shipments taking place on April 1, 2024. Suntory stated that the reason for the price increase is to help improve product quality and upgrade its production facilities. Although we think that inflation also plays a major role in this.

A total of 117 alcoholic drinks will be affected by this price increase, with some labels more than double current prices. To give you an idea of the new prices, three of Suntory's top whiskys – Hibiki 30 Years, Yamazaki 25 Years and Hakushu 25 Years – will go from ¥160,000 to an eye-watering ¥360,000.
