Jura Whisky

In 1810, the Jura Distillery was founded on the remote island of Jura, in the Scottish Hebrides. However, the history of Jura's whisky production goes back further, to the clandestine distilleries of the 18th century. After a period of closure and reopening in 1963, the distillery underwent a renaissance, developing into a globally recognized brand. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation has contributed to Jura's success in the world of Scotch whisky.

The region of Jura

The island of Jura, surrounded by rugged coastlines and unspoilt nature, plays a crucial role in the flavor profiles of Jura whiskis. The rugged terrain, maritime climate and natural resources all contribute to the unique characteristics of the Jura Distillery. The peace and seclusion of the island has a direct influence on the maturation of the whisky, resulting in a unique expression of the Scottish whisky tradition.

Most famous bottlings from Jura

Jura is known for its extensive portfolio of bottlings, of which the Jura 10 Years and the Jura Seven Wood are some of the most highly regarded. The Jura 10 Years, a core release, offers a balanced blend of sweet and smoky notes, while the Jura Seven Wood, aged in different barrel types, reveals complex layers of flavor and aroma. Both bottlings embody Jura's core values, where craftsmanship and innovation come together.

Size of Jura

With an annual production of approximately 2 million liters, Jura maintains a modest size. This limited scale allows the distillery to pay meticulous attention to every aspect of the production process, from raw materials to distillation and maturation. By adhering to this managed scale, Jura can maintain a consistent focus on quality and produce unique, high-quality whiskis.

Characteristics of Jura

Jura whisky is distinguished by its balanced combination of sweet, fruity and smoky flavors. The characteristic aromas, accentuated by influences of sea air and peat, reflect the unique geographical location of the island. The soothing influence of the sea and the rugged landscape contribute to the complexity of Jura whiskis. From the first nose to the finish, Jura's whisky embodies the essence of the remote island, where tradition and innovation collide in every carefully crafted drop.
